I grew up in the era when men carried a white handkerchief in their pocket with them. I can remember when I was a little girl my Dad using them to wipe the sweat off his forehead or to blow his nose with. It always made me feel so loved when he would let me use his when I would sneeze for he would dig it from his pocket and hold it gently over my nose.
My Mother carried them in her purse for she told me as I got older that it was cheaper to wash a handkerchief verses throwing away money on tissues. I didn't know if it was because we didn't have much money or if she just prefer it.
Now that Iam older I can look back and see that she was smart for tissues are expensive especially when you use them and threw them away and when you see a garbage filled with tissues it makes sense to use them and keep those dollars in your purse for other things.
I was very happy with the cotton handkerchiefs that I received for they are a nice size which is 10.8 x 5.1 x 0.5 inches. Plenty large enough to blew your nose a couple of times yet small enough to carry inside my purse or a back pocket.
They are rather soft and well made with 65% polyester and 35% cotton, with a satin border. They are very well stitched the borders are strong and secure so they material shouldn't fray away. My daughter has a cold and her nose is tender of course and she loves how much better they feel against her skin and I love seeing her comforted.
The handkerchief has a nice trim lined design running along the sides and it comes out around a couple of inches of the width for the top and bottom. I enjoy the fact that Iam saving money even though I rarely bought tissues from the habit my Mother set forth in me. Its alot nicer that grabbing a old t-shirt for I couldn't fit one of those in my purse oh my goodness.
They are a great value for you received five large handkerchiefs for $9.99 that can be easily washed in the washing machine and placed in the dryer. I liked how nicely, when coming from the dryer, they held their shape. Some people might want to iron them like my Mother did, but not me. I place them back inside my purse and my husband puts on in his back pocket like my Dad did. I received the white color but they do offers several pretty solids colors so have fun picking one out.
